TOUR INFORMATION

DAY TO DAY PROGRAM: 12 days/11 nights

1stday: Johannesburg
Arriving at Johannesburg International Airport, you will be met by a representative who will assist with the formalities of your car hire, before you set off to you guesthouse.  Alternatively you can choose to be transferred to your accommodation and have your car delivered at your accommodation the next morning. After you have checked and acclimatized you can explore the area, visiting a local flea market or historical landmarks in Johannesburg.

Optional:Afternoon guided tour around Johannesburg

2nd day:  After breakfast, you will be collected for the start of your guided Soweto FairtradeTour (5 hours) This tour will give you the opportunity to experience the Soweto Township in its purest. The tour will start with a glimpse of Baragwanath Hospital en route to Kliptown where the Freedom Charter was adopted in 1955.
We will visit the Hector Pietersen Museum and the Vilakazi precinct home to 2 former Nobel Peace Prize Winners - Bishop Desmond Tutu and Nelson Mandela. After this it is time to visit one of the many projects that find place in and around Soweto. Depending on the date and time of the tour the project you will visit will be selected. Thereafter we will head off to the bicycles to explore the hidden corners of the township. Learn Tsotsi Taal (a language spoken by the locals), visit a day care centre and a hostel to experience the effects of apartheid. Visit a local home and experience the vibe in Meadowlands.
After the cycle through Soweto you get to unwind with a typical township lunch. (Lunch on clients own account). After lunch you will be dropped off at your hotel.

Optional:You can choose to overnight in a Soweto B&B, near the famous sites, with transfer back to Johannesburg in the morning to continue with your journey.

3rd day: Johannesburg – Ermelo (ca. 350 km)
Today you leave the former Transvaal and drive to Ermelo in the Mpumulanga Province; you will have time to explore the San Rock Artwork, Paul Kruger Bridge, the Anglo - Boer War Memorial and Le Goya Village - the ruins of a settlement of the area's early inhabitants. Overnight in Ermelo

4th-5th day: Ermelo – Swaziland Border (ca. 300 km)
Departing the Ermelo after breakfast, you continue your journey in southerly direction towards the beautiful Kingdom of Swaziland, where you overnight  2 nights.  After customs you continue to Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary where you will spend the night. Your accommodation will be in traditional grass-dome shaped beehives . Here you can book optional excursions to discover Swaziland: guided chiefs walk, guided game-drive, mountain bike or horse ride via your accommodation.

6th day: Swaziland – Numbi Gate /Hazyview (ca. 300 km)
Departing Swaziland, you will head off towards the Numbi Gate bordering the Kruger National Park. Here you overnight in luxurious chalets at Phumulani Lodge. Phumulani Lodge is 100% owned by Mduli Trust; an initiative of Chief MZ Mduli’s. Experience Phumulani Lodge; an extension of tribal culture to uplift standards of living of local communities through job creation.

7th day: Numbi Gate/Hazyview – Hoedspruit via Panorama route (ca. 360 km)
Departing Phumulani Lodge, you will do the highlights of the Mpumalanga Province. These highlights include the historical gold mining city Pilgrim’s Rest, and the world renowned Panoramic Route. The Panoramic Route includes the Blyde River Canyon, Bourke’s Luck Potholes and God’s Window. Continuing in direction towards Orpen Gate -  near Kruger National Park, where you overnight for 2 nights.

8th day: Where nearly 2 million hectares of unrivalled diversity of life forms fuses with historical and archaeological sights – this is real Africa. The world-renowned Kruger National Park offers a wildlife experience that ranks with the best in Africa.
Should you choose to drive yourselves, please note that the Kruger Gates open at 05h30 and close at sunset. For those who prefer a guided game drive in open Land Rovers, or participate in guided bush walks with rangers and trackers; these excursions can be booked directly at your lodge.

9th day: Hoedspruit–Phalaborwa (ca. 115 km)
From Hoedspruit travel to Phalaborwa. Phalaborwa is a dream come true for the adventurous soul.  With so much to do, from playing golf, shopping, going on game drives to watching birds in their most natural environment. Overnight Phalaborwa

10th day: Phalaborwa –Makhado (ca. 200 km)
Drive over one of South Africa’s most beautiful mountain passes; the Magoebaskloof Pass en route through Tzaneen to Makhado, situated in the Limpopo province, formerly known as Transvaal. You overnight 2 nights in FTTSA accredited Shiluvari Lakeside Lodge, in thatched chalets, all incorporating elements from local artists and crafters. On site there is a curio shop promoting crafts from area, this in turn stimulates the growth of sustainable tourism. Included is a guided sunset cruise on the Levubu River where you meet up with hippos and crocodiles.
Overnight Makhado

11th day: Situated in a tropical area surrounded by scenic splendor, Makhado previously Louis Trichardt offers the visitor a variety of leisure activities. Today you go on a guided local artist tour; you visit the small villages in the surrounding of Makhado. Get to know the Venda and Shangaan culture, famous for their multi culture arts and crafts. Meet local wood carvers, potters and textile weavers in their own villages. Enjoy you picnic lunch at one of the many stunning lookout points.
Overnight Makhado

12th day: Makhado – Johannesburg (ca. 375 km)
Departing Makhado after breakfast, you will drive back to Johannesburg International Airport to return you car and connect with your onward travels.
