DAY TO DAY PROGRAM: 20days / 19nights.
1st day: Cape Town (ca. 100 km)
After your arrival at Cape Town Int. Airport, you meet our local representative who will explain you the details and assist you with your car. You have the rest of the day to acclimatize and explore Cape Town, where you overnight 2 nights in FTTSA accredited The Backpack; a luxury backpackers of note in Cape Town, straddling the line between hostel and hotel with its dignity intact.
You can choose to upgrade to FTTSA accredited Daddy Long Legs Hotel; this gives you the opportunity to absorb the creative spirit of Cape Town in vibey Longstreet.
Luxury tour: overnight at Cape Grace Hotel at the V&A Waterfront. FTTSA certified based on the hotel’s exceptional employment practises, supply chain management strategies and strong focus on staff welfare.
2nd day: Today you have time to explore Cape Town, visit one of its many highlights like Table Mountain, Robben island or Cape of Goodhope. You can choose from a variety of the uplifting social and community projects. Alternatively visit the Rondevlei Nature reserve (Cape Floral Region Protected Areas) with FTTSA accredited Imvubu Nature Tours or book a guided tour into local township Kayelitsha and visit the Philani weaving project. You can choose to overnight in a local B&B.
3rd day: Cape Town – Stellenbosch (ca. 60 km)
Today you can drive to Cape Point. For crafts, stop over at the Two Oceans Craft & Culture centre in Kommetje. Continue via a variety of wine and farmland to Stellenbosch, where you overnight. You can have an enchanting Cape African experience at historic FTTSA accredited Spier in the heart of the Stellenbosch Winelands; here you can also visit the Cheetah Outreach project.
Luxury tour: Overnight in the village at FTTSA accredited Spier; eco-friendly establishment, simply, yet elegantly appointed in traditional country style, a unique wine development in the world. Embracing wine lands and an outdoor theatre.
4th day: Stellenbosch –Clanwilliam (ca. 230 km)
Today you start your route towards Namibia via the West Coast. En route you can have a wine tasting at Fairtrade Certified winery Citrusdal Cellars. You can visit the Rooibos factory or "Veldskoene" (leather shoes) factory or explore the area water skiing or hiking. Overnight in Clanwilliam, at the foot of the mighty Cederberg Mountain.
This area of sweeping mountains, wide open spaces and clean mountain air is a favourite for hikers, birders and those seeking the peace and solitude of this remote wilderness. This spectacular range of mountains is often blanketed in snow during the winter months.
5th day: Clanwilliam – Nieuwoudtville (ca. 120 km)
Today you continue along the Olifants River; thanks to the fertile soil and the semi-arid area, the valley is an ideal wine producing region. Visit the cellars, see the farm and taste wine at the organic and fairtrade certified Stellar Winery. Vist a rooibos factory, taste rooibos tea and meet the producers. Enjoy a cultural excursion along the traditional houses in the Rooibos Heritage Route. Overnight in nearby Nieuwoudtville, in the midst of Namakwaland in absolute splendour.
6th day: Nieuwoudtville - Ais Ais (ca. 300 km)
Continue up north and cross the boarder with Namibia. Drive to Ais Ais, renowned for its thermal springs that mark the end of the 85 kilometer long Fish River Canyon Hiking Trail. The Fish River Canyon is the worlds 2nd largest canyon and truly spectacular. You can visit the Gondwana Canon Park, covering 100 000 ha of breathtakingly beautiful land to the south west of the Fish River Canyon. Overnight in Ais Ais.
7th day: Ais Ais – Maltahohe (ca. 350 km)
Drive towards the coast crossing the Fish River and continuing along some of Namibia’s most scenic routes passing through the small settlements; Betanien and Helmeringhausen and the visiting Duwisib Castle. You overnight in Maltahohe. Here you can visit the AmaBaruxa Choir of the local Maltahohe school.
8th day: Maltahohe – Sesriem (ca. 230 km)
Drive down the Tsaris Pass and along the Naukluft and Nubib Mountains in the direction of Solitaire before turning to Sesriem, where you overnight 2 nights in a Desert Lodge.
9th day: You have the whole day to visit Sesriem, the Sesriem Canyon, Sossusvlei, the Namib Naukluft Park and the Tsauchab River. You can book different optional excursions: a shuttle service to Sossusvlei, a dune walk to Hidden or Dead Vlei, Hot Air Balloon, aeroplane flights over the dunes or guided walking- and horse trails.
10th day: Sesriem –Swakopmund (ca. 380 km)
Today you drive to Swakopmund, where you overnight 2 nights. En route you pass the Ghaub Pass and Kuiseb Canyon. En route you can visit the ancient Welwitschia Mirabilis and the Moon Landscape.
11th day: Today you can enjoy Namibia’s most popular coastal town Swakopmund and the many activities it has to offer. You can book a guided Mondesa Township tour into the suburb of Mondesa. Optional excursions are guided ballooning and boat cruises, pleasure flights, quad biking and desert 4x4 trips.
12th day: Swakopmund – Twijfelfontein (ca. 400 km)
You continue your tour along the coast, en route you can visit the small fisherman’s village Henties Bay and the Skeleton Coast. Your route goes inland, stop at the small town of Uis. Uis, a town at the edge of the Namib Here you can buy local crafts and at the Tourist Information office you can book your tours (in advance) with the Dâureb Mountain Guides to the world-famous rock painting of the 'White Lady'. If you extend your holiday you can book the three-day-trek to Königstein, which is the top of the Brandberg and the highest peak in Namibia. After Uis you drive past the Brandberg and the famous "White Lady. Further along you reach the Ugab River where Herero ladies in traditional dress sell hand made Herero dolls. Continue you way to Twijfelfontein, the 'Fountain of Doubt', one of the great sights in north-western Namibia, where you stay 2 nights in the Uibasen Twijfelfontein Conservancy.
13th day: The Twyfelfontein area, being a very vulnerable and delicate ecosystem, is renowned for some of the best examples of Bushman paintings and rock engravings in southern Africa. You can enjoy walks to the 6000 year old Khoi-San (Bushmen) paintings and engravings. From here you can visit the Burnt Mountain and the dolerite columns; known as Organ Pipes.
14th day: Twijfelfontein – Etosha National Park via Khorixas (ca. 350 km)
Continue your route and before Khorixas, you find a petrified forest with remains of massive trees that where uprooted elsewhere 200 million years ago. Guided excursions at Twyfelfontein can be arranged by the Twyfelfontein or Petrified Forest Guides. Khorixas itself is the capital of Damara Land. Further along the road, close to Outjo, you can visit the limestone conglomerate “Vingerklip”. Enter at the western side of Etosha National Park, one of the world largest national parks, and overnight at Okaukuejo wildlife resort. As in all resorts in Etosha, there is a floodlit waterhole where you have the opportunity to see elephant and black rhinos from very close by.
15th day: Today you have the whole day to explore Etosha National Park and look for game. Drive through the park to the eastern entrance and overnight in Etosha.
16th day: Etosha to Waterberg via Grootfontein and Roy’s Camp (ca. 370 km)
On your way to Waterberg you can visit Lake Otjikoto, a huge sinkhole with an interesting history. Next stopover is Tsumeb, a mining town with a now abandoned copper mine, which is being re-opened. Tsumeb is known as Namibia’s garden city, due to its abundance of water and lush trees and shrubs. Continue to Waterberg via Grootfontein where you can see the Hoba meteorite; the largest meteorite in the world, weighing fifty tonnes and measuring almost three meters long. Overnight 2 nights at Waterberg.
17th day: Today you can spend exploring one of the many hiking trails that the Waterberg has to offer or book a guided nature drive. Here you have a good opportunity to see buffalo and sable antelope. You can also choose to travel towards Rundu and reach “Roy’s Camp”, here you will have the opportunity to see how the Khoi-San (Bushmen) lived 150 years ago in Namibia.
18th day: Waterberg –Windhoek (ca. 210 km)
Drive to the capital city of Namibia; Windhoek where you overnight 2 nights. The interesting places in the city can easily be visited on foot in your own time. Optional you can visit the township Katutra, which means 'we will never settle (here)' in OtjiHerero. Optional you can book a Face to Face tour, which gives you the opportunity to experience aspects of Windhoek which are not seen by tourists in general. You learn about the history of the former township and visit the Penduka craft cooperative, women producing the most amazing products where you can enjoy a meal at their restaurant. You can choose to overnight in a rondavel in Katatura; one of the individually decorated round huts for guests or in a hotel in Windhoek.
19th day: You can continue to your next destination or drive to Hosea Kutako Int. Airport for your flight home or onwards travels.
